March News...

Thank you, Mary Hurst!

Mary had interviewed recently and was able to piece my rantings together into a very nice story. We hit it off right away and talked like old friends. (Not something you normally want to do with a journalist) If you missed it, it's in the March 11th edition of The Reporter newspaper.

Journalist can be your best friend or your worst enemy, but Mary Hurst was a delight to work with. And from the sounds of it, Mary should write a story about her life because she is quite an interesting lady!

As for my current activity... I'm sitting down (finally) and working on the screenplay for Plunge. I spoke to the Artistic Director of a Seattle theatre called Theatre Schmeatre recently. He urged me to write the screenplay as he is very interested in shooting Plunge as a film. I write the screenplay, they cast the talent, scout locations, do the production end... and then shop it at film festivals!

My little story evolved into a book. So, hopefully, my book will evolve into a film... and what's left after that, you say? Plunge On Ice! Okay, just kidding about the ice show... but I am interested in getting it onto the big screen.

Well, gotta get back to the writing. Happy reading!

 "O, the joy"

- Captain Meriwhether Lewis

I'm ready to burst with joy! I've finished writing the PLUNGE manuscript! I've seen the first illustration and it's perfect! The cover art is being finalized and there is nothing I can do but wait. I hope that everyone can appreciate my passion for this project.

The story is about a father and son that live in different worlds. It's fun, adventurous AND compelling. (And if you are not careful, educational.) Keep a watchful eye out for this imaginative tale that will knock your socks off! It may even inspire you to take the plunge! PLUNGE is coming SOON!

This week in ericsworld...

Whoa! I've been getting a lot of nice feedback which is, well, nice. Lohsie's Woods is a "nice" book. Kids being kids, Halloween pranks and the like. You know... nice. There isn't much in it that can be deemed edgy.

Lured Away, however, pulls no punches in its depiction of the dangers that await a naive runaway. I recently received feedback on Lured Away by a lady that is in a book club. She said that as they read the book one of the girls in the group began to cry and left the room! As it turned out she had run away to be with a new "boyfriend" when she was younger and the book reminded her of that traumatic experience.

Of course I feel for that young lady and wish her well. I also hope that other kids and young adults that read the book realize that running away isn't the only option in times of crisis. Lured Away will strike each individual in a different way. Some will see it as an interesting book of fiction... while others see it as a reminder that, sometimes, home isn't such a bad place to be.

Well, get those Halloween decorations up and make it fun for the kids. Next time we'll talk about how Halloween has changed over the years. When I was a kid we'd Trick-or-Treat 'til AFTER the streetlights came on. Those were the good ol' days...
