Whoa! I've been getting a lot of nice feedback which is, well, nice. Lohsie's Woods is a "nice" book. Kids being kids, Halloween pranks and the like. You know... nice. There isn't much in it that can be deemed edgy. Lured Away, however, pulls no punches in its depiction of the dangers that await a naive runaway. I recently received feedback on Lured Away by a lady that is in a book club. She said that as they read the book one of the girls in the group began to cry and left the room! As it turned out she had run away to be with a new "boyfriend" when she was younger and the book reminded her of that traumatic experience. Of course I feel for that young lady and wish her well. I also hope that other kids and young adults that read the book realize that running away isn't the only option in times of crisis. Lured Away will strike each individual in a different way. Some will see it as an interesting book of fiction... while others see it as a reminder that, sometimes, home isn't such a bad place to be. Well, get those Halloween decorations up and make it fun for the kids. Next time we'll talk about how Halloween has changed over the years. When I was a kid we'd Trick-or-Treat 'til AFTER the streetlights came on. Those were the good ol' days... |
